Be Notorious
This elegy is written to celebrate the life of our loved and notorious US supreme court justice, Ruth Bader Ginsberg or RBG, a towering women’s right champion and 2nd female justice.
What would the world look like if
We dissent status quo and failure to change
in lieu, commit to going deeper, failing forward at close range.
We dissent to being non-racist or not seeing color
in lieu, promise to being anti-racist with splendor.
We dissent to dismissing microaggressions as overreactions
in lieu, devote to understanding how good intentions can sometimes lead to harmful refractions.
We dissent adultification of women robbing them of their joy in the workplace
in lieu, pledge to viewing them as human and with dignified grace.
We dissent deep-rooted performance bias of overestimating his performance and underestimating her’s
in lieu, resolute to viewing them as equitably and fairly.
We dissent to attribution bias giving her less credit for accomplishments and blame her for more mistakes
We dissent the age-old expectation that women must assert themselves less, and if they do we like them less
We dissent maternal bias or false assumptions that women are less committed to their careers or even less competent
We dissent gravitating towards people like us and avoid or even dislike people who are different from us
In lieu, fight for things we care about.
